First official Red Skull photo from Captain America
We’ve been away for a few days, but we are happy to be back with a great update.
EW have published the first official still of Hugo Weaving in his full Red Skull costume and makeup, along with a few words from director Joe Johnston.

Captain America: The First Avenger is directed by Joe Johnston, and stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as sidekick Bucky Barnes, Hugo Weaving as villain The Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Tommy Lee Jones as General Chester Phillips, Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola, and Richard Armitage as Heinz Kruger.
Captain America – Chris Evans talks about the role
Chris Evans had a chat with Total Film about his starring role in Captain America, and touched on his multi-film commitment and his research.
“It’s a big commitment… At one point it was nine pictures. We’ve got it down to six but still, that’s making a decision for a big portion of your life. I love acting but there are other things I want to do. I want to write and direct. If the movies do well and they want to exercise all six films, I could be doing this until I’m 40.
“You go in and do as much research as you can from the comic books, but you’re also trying to make something your own. This is an origin story. I think a lot of the comic books deal with after he’s become Captain America, so to some degree we had to take some liberties. But you want to make sure you’ve done your homework.”

Captain America – Sebastian Stan interview
MTV grabbed a chat with Sebastian Stan, who plays sidekick Bucky Barns in Captain America.
In the interview he speaks glowingly of the film and co-star Chris Evans, and mentions that resoots/additional filming is likely to take place. This isn’t really anything to worry about – many large productions take the opportunity to tweak during post-production with new or re-shot scenes, so this is pretty much standard procedure.
On potential reshoots:
“The possibility of re-shoots is definitely a high percentage. But I think that always helps, because you can come back to it and see what it is that needs to be added or taken away. I think we’ll have a little bit of that too.”
On working with Chris Evans:
“You always hope that you’re going to be able to work with people that you get along with. Chris and I got along so well. I love that guy. Not only did he really fill out his shoes in terms of being a leader and taking the movie on his shoulders — he did that very naturally, he’s a natural leader — but we also got along so well.”

Captain America – Joe Johnston talks about viewing the first cut of the film
In an interview with LA Times, Joe Johnston has spoken about his reaction to the first cut of his film, and lots else besides:
“I watched the movie for the first time a few days ago and I just looked at the first cut and there is so much entertainment value — it’s just flat-out fun to watch. Maybe I’m somewhat biased — I was there [when we made it] — but, seriously, it’s funny, it’s exciting and there’s great visual effects. The movie is going to be something more than people are expecting. This movie is going to surprise some people.”
Overall, he sounds extremely enthused about the project, which is good considering his poor experience on previous film Wolfman – let’s hope his excitement is vindicated this summer!
